BREEAM

BREEAM- Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method

The BREEAM family of assessment methods and tools are all designed to help construction professionals understand and mitigate the environmental impacts of the developments they design and build.

BREEAM Offices:

One the world's most widely used means of reviewing and improving the environmental performance of office buildings.

BREEAM Offices assessments can be carried out on both new and existing office buildings - non occupied or occupied, as follows:

  • New build or refurbishment: design and procurement
  • Existing office (occupied): management and operation

BREEAM Schools:

This helps schools and LEAs to set environmental targets for new and refurbished school buildings. It also serves as a useful tool for designers by demonstrating the environmental performance of their designs.

Assessments can be carried out at the design stage and verified post construction for primary and secondary schools including the following:

  • New Schools
  • Major refurbishment projects
  • Extensions

EcoHomes:

The version of BREEAM for homes; it provides an authoritative rating for new, converted or renovated homes, and covers houses, flats and apartments.

EcoHomes balances environmental performance with the need for a high quality of life and a safe and healthy internal environment. Many of the issues are optional, ensuring EcoHomes is flexible enough to be tailored to a particular development or market.

EcoHomes Assessments can be carried out at both the design stage or post construction for major refurbishment projects.

In April 2007 the Code for Sustainable Homes replaced EcoHomes for the assessment of new housing in England. EcoHomes 2006 will continue to be used for refurbished housing in England and for all housing in Scotland and Wales.

JPA are accredited BREEAM* Offices, Schools, EcoHomes and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessors and can provide advice and guidance on compliance with these standards. Our sustainability team can also offer a dynamic Thermal Modelling Service that enables us to determine the thermal performance of a building at the design stage as well as day light analysis; both requirements of a BREEAM Assessment.
