A target of 80% cut in carbon emissions by the year 2050 is a huge challange if the industrial growth rate of many countries continue at the same alarming rate.

Whilst an 80% cut is a challenging target, what are the risks to the environment of not cutting carbon emissions...rising sea levels, climate instability, creeping deserts, extinction of many creatures. The question is really can we afford not to cut our carbon emissions. I think we should use science to find solutions which are cleaner and in the long run probably more efficient. This requires focus and an effort to divert current investment away from wasteful burning of carbon producing energy sources into research and development of cleaner technologies. Sustainable design and development backed by some serious scientific investment is probably where the answer lies
